Build Your Own Path: learning agility, career curiosity, and what comes next

The ladder is gone. Most of us are already building without it.

On Thursday 15 October, Women of Customer Success London is partnering with Synthesia London for an evening about how you actually decide what comes next.

We'll be joined by Helen Tupper - CEO of Amazing If, co-host of Squiggly Careers, the UK's #1 career podcast, and co-author of the Sunday Times bestsellers The Squiggly Career, You Coach You and Learn Like a Lobster. She has held leadership roles at Microsoft, Virgin and BP. Her work centres on the five skills that matter more than a title: strengths, values, confidence, networks and possibilities.

The goal of the evening

To get you thinking about your career more broadly than the next role.

Post-sales is being redrawn in real time. Scope changes faster than titles do, and AI is accelerating all of it. Planning a career against a fixed ladder in that environment doesn't work anymore.

So we're not asking what your next promotion should be. We're asking what you're building, what you're learning, and how you make decisions when the map keeps redrawing itself.

Act 1 · Fireside with audience Q&A: The Squiggly Career (50 min)

Helen in conversation, moderated by the Synthesia team. Frank, warm, practical. We'll get into:

  • What career development actually looks like when there's no obvious next rung

  • How to know when to go deep in a role vs when to move — and who should own that decision

  • The one career habit to build in your first five years

  • How to turn uncertainty into a career advantage rather than something to manage around

  • How companies can help their best people squiggle within the business rather than out of it

Act 2 · Career Moves: Peer-Group Roundtables (45 min)
The practical, hands-on half of the evening. Choose your table and join a conversation with peers.

Roundtable topics include:

  • The best career advice you've been given - and the worst

  • What you'd tell yourself five years ago

  • Why a lateral move still feels like a step down, and whether it is

  • Working with your leader or mentor to grow on purpose

  • What has genuinely supported your career, and what hasn't

Every attendee takes home a copy of The Squiggly Career or Learn Like a Lobster, courtesy of Synthesia.
