THE EYES OF GHANA: Special Private Screening

For nearly six decades, a secret archive of film sat hidden in London: the largest surviving record of Kwame Nkrumah's rise, documenting his vision for a free and united Africa, and the coup that tried to erase him from history. Preserved by his personal cinematographer, Chris Hesse, that footage is now the heart of THE EYES OF GHANA, directed by two-time Academy Award winner Ben Proudfoot and executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama. The award-winning film opened the Toronto International Film Festival's documentary program and is heading into an imminent fall global release.

​There's no more fitting place for this gathering than Martha's Vineyard: for over two centuries a home to Black American life, and linked by the same Atlantic coastline that once carried enslaved Ghanaians to New England's shores.
