About Event

The college admissions process is more competitive and confusing than ever but it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.

Join Poppy member Michelle McAnaney, founder of The College Spy, for an inside look at what colleges really want and how students can stand out. Parents will leave with clarity, confidence, and practical next steps to support their teen at every stage.

Topics include:

  • What should my teen focus on? Academic rigor, GPA, SAT/ACT or activities?

  • How to choose and describe extracurriculars that impress admissions officers

  • The surprising role of character in the admissions process

  • What “demonstrated interest” means—and whether it truly matters

  • Why “college fit” is the key to both acceptance and long-term success

Michelle McAnaney is the founder and lead Independent Educational Consultant of The College Spy, a Jackson-based company. She personally consults with families through the “Countdown to College” concierge service, teaches popular courses and workshops for students and parents, and has visited 300+ college campuses. Prior to founding The College Spy, Michelle worked as a guidance director in Maine and New York. She is an MBTI Certified Practitioner and a NLP Master Practitioner.
