AI Collective Maryland is joining Hack for Humanity × Hacktoberfest 2026, and we're bringing it to Silver Spring! It's the continuation of the Humans in AI Week conversations we held this summer, where we identified real problems in our local community... and now is our chance to build the solutions.

This event is part of MLH's official Hacktoberfest Hack Days. To attend, you need to:

MLH registration is how you get checked in and receive your stickers. It only takes a couple of minutes.
Join us for a one-day hackathon where you'll build open-source AI tools for social good. Bring an idea or join a team on the spot, build with open-weight models and open-source AI tooling, and demo what you made by the end of the day.

The focus here is exactly what the name says. Every problem statement and every project should solve something local to your community, with the purpose of benefiting humanity.
All types of builders are welcome at this event. Winners may be asked to showcase their products in our global newsletter, which reaches 300k+ subscribers!
Hacktoberfest t-shirts and stickers are provided.
Hack for Humanity: Silver Spring is brought to you in partnership with Creative Colony, who is generously hosting us in the heart of downtown Silver Spring.
Creative Colony is a coworking community in downtown Silver Spring where entrepreneurs, creatives, developers, and small business owners grow their businesses independently, but not alone. With private offices, dedicated desks, and flexible coworking, it's been a home for Montgomery County's builders for over a decade. Stop by and see the space!
