Contact Improvisation (CI) Class Miami
Class 1: Weight Sharing & Banana Rolling
This first class focuses on learning how to safely give, receive, and redirect weight through shared points of contact. We will explore grounding, listening through touch, maintaining responsive structure, and recognizing when support is available without forcing movement.
The class will also introduce banana rolling, a fundamental floor-based exercise for developing softness, continuous contact, momentum, spiraling pathways, and relaxed transitions between partners.
The session includes 90 minutes of guided instruction and partner exercises, followed by a 30-minute facilitated jam where participants can practice the material in a more open improvisational setting.
Topics include weight sharing, giving and receiving weight, grounding, listening through contact, banana rolling, momentum, relaxation, and safe transitions.
No previous Contact Improvisation experience is required. Each class in the 8-week series is designed to stand on its own, so participants may join individual sessions without attending the full series.
What to Bring
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and make contact with the floor. Long pants or leggings and a fitted or comfortable top are recommended. Please bring water and arrive a few minutes early so we can begin together.
Class Guidelines
Contact Improvisation is a shared movement practice based on attention, communication, and consent. Participants are always free to pause, modify, or opt out of any exercise. Please come clean, avoid strong fragrances, keep nails trimmed, and remove jewelry or accessories that could catch during movement.
