Hopes and Fears: Strengthening the Relationship with Today’s Independent School Parents

​Parents choose an independent school for many reasons; they come to a school filled with hopes and worries. If there is going to be a successful alliance between a school and parents, it starts with the first admissions conversation.  In this Zoom seminar, Dr. Thompson will draw on his book (coauthored with Rob Evans, Ed.D.) Hopes and Fears: Strengthening the Relationship with Today's Parents to offer ways in which educators and admissions officers can make their conversations with parents more meaningful and informative.

​SPEAKER: Michael G. Thompson, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, school consultant, author, and internationally recognized speaker specializing in children, families, and schools. He has worked with more than 700 schools in the United States and around the world and currently serves as the supervising psychologist at Belmont Hill School. Dr. Thompson is the author or coauthor of ten books, including the New York Times bestseller Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys, as well as The Pressured Child, Best Friends, Worst Enemies, and Homesick and Happy. With psychologist Robert Evans, he coauthored Hopes and Fears: Strengthening the Relationship with Today’s Independent School Parents, which offers practical, empathetic guidance for navigating the complex and evolving partnership between families and schools.
