Fueled by the notion that we should bring curiosity to the things we choose to partake in and the customs we inherit, How to Eat a Mango is a journey of understanding and reframing through cultural research. It's an invitation to look closely at what we engage with and the cultural relevance behind it—relevance we often take for granted and rarely examine as we consume—an invitation to question our assumptions.
In our interactions, we should ask: is there another way to see this — a different perspective? A siloed approach often hands power to the system that designed the experience for you. Your power, in that case, is an informed opinion.
Eating a mango can be transactional, consumed simply for nourishment. Or it can be nostalgic and celebratory — a moment where you're fully present, savoring its journey, and in that savoring, coming to understand it more fully than consumption alone ever could.
In this masterclass, we use the mango as a metaphor to explore and amplify the value of cultural practices and insights in problem-solving and opinion-making — designing solutions that are more relevant and inclusive. We zoom out to see the systems within which topics exist, understanding how exposure shapes opinion, and how these insights benefit from greater care.
