Ever feel like writing is just for “professionals” or tortured creatives? 👀

If you think writing is only for the people who know what they're doing, think again.

You don’t need to “be a writer" to write. You don’t even need to know what to write. Just bring yourself and your curiosity, and see where that leads you.

What to Expect:

A lightly guided, low-pressure creative writing and exploration session with

  • Surprise prompts tucked into envelopes — written for Unfold Margins or drawn from literary references 📝

  • Quiet ambience so you can focus

  • Pens, papers, stickers and stamps provided — or bring your own notebooks or laptops

  • Tea (sparkling or otherwise) / a non-caffeinated / non-alcoholic drink + light snacks ☕️

  • Optional sharing at the end — most people share, and it's always the highlight 🩷

  • Supportive and inviting company of people being creative together

💌 No critiques, just play

🍽️ Please come after you’ve had dinner! We’ll prepare some snacks, but they won’t be as filling as a full meal.

About Your Host

✍🏻 Georgia Ho of Unfold Margins

I used to think you need to “be a writer” to write, that you have to be published, that you have to be good, that you need to know how to not just play with words, but shape them.

Then I started Unfold Margins. And I realised I was completely wrong. As much as I’ve told people you got to just write for fun, I couldn’t believe it for myself until I lived through it with you.

So hello, my name is Georgia. I’ve written for many forms, as a copywriter and content marketer, and as someone who’s always wanted to be considered a “real writer” and write more creatively. I did get my writing exhibited at NLB at one point, but that didn’t make me feel like I’m any good, or good enough to be a “real writer”. As someone who’s been somewhat adjacent to Singapore’s literary space all these years, I wanted to be a “writer”. And I still do. But I forgot to truly love the writing, I have to love all of it.

The bad metaphors, the terrible smilies. Because no one else would love them but me.

I started Unfold Margins because I wanted a space where writing doesn’t have to be this big, serious, perfect thing, and it doesn’t have to be intimidating, and it doesn’t have to exist for anyone but yourself. That’s not just good enough, it’s necessary.

I’m not saying throw away craft and learning to write better. What I mean is if you haven’t written because you feel like you have to perform for someone else, this is my invitation to you: write it for yourself.

FAQs
