Walktober Finale: The Golden Gate Dozen
Cap off your month of walking joy with Walktober coordinator Karen Rhodes on a 12-mile ramble along the new Golden Gate Dozen Trail. Created by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, this spectacular shoreline route connects 12 national park sites into one urban adventure.
From Crissy Field to Fort Funston, we’ll take in beaches, dramatic bluffs, and sweeping ocean panoramas while uncovering layers of San Francisco history. Bird-watch along Crissy Field’s restored marshlands, catch iconic bridge views from Presidio Tunnel Tops, and explore the Civil War-era Fort Point. We’ll descend the Sand Ladder to Baker Beach, dive into indigenous and civil rights history at Lands End, wander the ruins of the legendary Sutro Baths, and stroll the art-filled Sunset Dunes before watching hang gliders catch the coastal air at Fort Funston.
Because it’s Halloween, we’re adding a fun twist. We will make special stops at four visitor centers – Presidio Visitor Center, Warming Hut, Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, and Lands End Lookout – for festive treats, surprise giveaways, and exclusive book discounts, courtesy of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Costumes are highly encouraged!
While this epic walk is entirely free, your optional donations (and in-store purchases) to the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy as well as the Crosstown Trails directly fund the upkeep of these stunning public spaces. Come discover how truly connected our city’s parks and neighborhoods really are.
Route Overview
The 12-mile point-to-point route spans the entire western shoreline of San Francisco. You can visit Golden Gate Dozen Trail for self-guided exploration any time of the year.

Because this is a point-to-point walk, we recommend taking public transit.
