About Event

Hello, darklings!

Come join me at Salon Rouge to celebrate the launch of my embodied crip magical realism novella, Joyce! It's been a long time coming, and I'm thrilled to share her with you!

Given Salon Rouge is a speakeasy kind of place, I will release the address via email and text a week before the event to those who have RSVPed Yes.

SYNOPSIS

This was a place of comfort once.

Enveloped in memories and ghosts, my days feel endless, short, repetitive. Time is slippery until Tuesdays—most Tuesdays, anyways. I’ve been called to the cabin to grieve a mother, a body, an ideal love. I’ve escaped for clarity, and the deep breath I can’t take anywhere else.

As I settle in, the unexpected finds me. It sneaks in through shattering glass and rustling leaves. It’s seen and unseen, felt and heard and known.

Though the world is dark from where I am now, healing seems possible. If only I can get out onto the lake. If only I’m able to understand the house witch as much as she did. If only I learn the ways of the woods like Dad. If only.

I will speak with the birds. I will become the sky. I will come undone and remake myself. But who will I be on the other side?

Quiet and evocative, Joyce is embodied dark crip magical realism examining life in a haunted body.

EVENT INFO

I'll do a reading and have a lil q&a, should that be of interest. Then, I have a few beautiful glass bees from Shadowfire Glass to giveaway for those who buy books.

I hope you'll stay beyond the reading, though. I want this to be a traditional book event just long enough to share Joyce with you. Then, I'd love to celebrate the Brazilian holiday, Day of Saudade / Saudades Day. It would be lovely to chat, buy a drink or two (there's a bar here that serves non-alcoholic drinks like soda, as well as beer, wine, and event cocktails!), get to know one another in a more meaningful way. No talk of what we are working on or what we're watching. Let's swap stories of yesterday and remembrance, of loss and joy, of how we are really doing—no, really. I chose Saudades Day for a reason, after all.

Oh! Also...

The day after the event, expect an email from me asking for any photos you have. Feel free to text or email me instead, but this should be an easy way to see everyone's all at once. Who knows, maybe you'll see one of yourself that you love.

NOTE: I may use these for my website and newsletter.

Location
Portland
OR, USA
PARKING: Ample—a gravel lot and street parking SEATING: Primarily cushioned chairs or stools DRINKS: A well-stocked bar that takes Venmo (soda, beer, cocktails, etc.) TEMPERATURE: Two doors open, so it can get a little chilly. LIGHTING AND VIBES: Dimly lit, moody, reds and creams. Truly, a speakeasy. SOUND: Probably use a mic, but it's a smallish venue, so I'll go on attendance.
