Navigating Layoff as non-EU citizens in Sweden: Peer Sharing + Live Q&A
Update from organizers: please join the waitlist, we are considering expanding the capacity or eventually conduct a second session. By joining the waitlist, you express your interest and help us justify the event capacity.
Why this session exists
If you work in Sweden on a non-EU permit, a layoff is never just a job problem. Your residence permit is tied to your employment, and once the notice lands, the clock starts: typically three months to find your next job.
The official information exists, but it's scattered across agencies that don't talk to each other: Arbetsförmedlingen, your A-kassa, your union. Nobody hands you the path from A to B.
The agenda (60 min, online)
First 30 min is sharing from lived experience:
Last working day vs. compensation: "work" vs. "release," and why the difference is worth a month of salary
The Arbetsgivarintyg certificate your employer must upload, but if you ask for an "employment certificate" and you'll get the wrong document
What A-kassa really pays, what work permits you can consider.
Next 30 min will be open Q&A. Bring your situation.
Your speaker
Phong Trang is a Product Mananger in Gothenburg and co-founder of My Sweden Life. In 2026 he went through the Volvo Cars Tech Hub layoff himself — the notice meeting, the last working day, the A-kassa paperwork, and the job hunt on a work permit. This session is what he wishes someone had told him.
