Book Club: Flesh by David Szalay
For our last read of the year, Lit Club voted on the Booker Prize shortlist— and we chose David Szalay’s Flesh, winner of the 2025 Booker Prize.
Flesh follows István, a young man from rural Hungary who moves to London in search of possibility. As he climbs from odd jobs to the city’s upper tiers, the novel tracks the choices, desires, and compromises that shape his path. It’s a sharp, absorbing portrait of a life built across borders — and how far someone will go to change their fate.
Set against shifting social, economic, and emotional terrains, Flesh captures the subtleties of masculinity, longing, and the cost of reinvention.
We'll meet at Cordelia, a beautiful Book Bar in Crown Heights for intimate discussion, red wine and light bites.
