Design beyond either/or: polarity thinking in facilitation
Polarization is increasingly shaping teams, cultures, and facilitated spaces where diverse perspectives collide. Yet many tensions are not problems to solve, but polarities to navigate — interdependent values with both benefits and risks. When facilitators learn to work with these dynamics rather than “fix” them, they can foster deeper insight, connection, and more sustainable outcomes.
This interactive workshop introduces polarity thinking as a practical lens for understanding group dynamics and navigating conflict. Participants will explore the polarities underlying their facilitation challenges, experiment with polarity mapping, and practice reframing divisive issues into constructive “both/and” conversations.
Originally offered in-person at the IAF Conference in Mexico, this online session creates space for those who could not attend — and for those who want to continue exploring and deepening the conversation.
Participants will leave with practical tools and strategies they can immediately apply in facilitation, leadership, and conflict navigation.
This session is designed as an interactive workshop rather than a webinar. To support meaningful participation and conversation, spaces may be limited.
