A bit about our guide: At 9 years old, Violet Brill started co-leading foraging tours with her father, “Wildman” Steve Brill; by age 14, she was leading her own tours. Violet enjoys teaching the public about wild edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms in the New York region, including how to sustainably harvest, prepare, and use them for food and home remedies. She started birding at 10 years old and after transferring from UMass Amherst, she is now a senior at Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences studying Environment and Sustainability. Violet conducts research at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, where she combines genomics and field studies to understand the ecology, behavior, and conservation of songbirds. She is passionate about ornithology, conservation biology, and environmental education.
