​Twenty years ago, few would have predicted that Camden would host one of the region's most consequential oncology institutions.

​George E. Norcross III opens the program with the story of how it happened — the decision to build Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, the partnership that brought MD Anderson to Camden in 2013, and the deliberate choice to put advanced cancer care in a community that had been largely underserved.

​He'll take that history forward to discuss:

​George E. Norcross III

​George E. Norcross III serves as Chairman of Conner Strong & Buckelew, one of the nation’s largest insurance, risk management, and employee benefits brokerage and consulting firms, which he founded in 1979.

​Norcross also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Cooper Health System, Cooper University Hospital, and MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. During more than three decades of leadership at Cooper, he has helped guide its transformation into one of the region’s leading academic health systems. Today, Cooper employs more than 14,000 people and serves nearly two million patients annually across more than 100 locations.

​As Chair, Norcross led Cooper as it launched the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, the first new medical school in New Jersey in 30 years and opened the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. He is also helping lead Project Imagine, the largest health care development project in New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania history. The $3 billion project will dramatically expand the academic health system’s Camden campus to meet the current and future projected demand at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and Cooper University Hospital.

​Beyond his business and healthcare leadership, Norcross has been a longtime supporter of economic development, education, healthcare, and community initiatives throughout Camden and South Jersey. Through his family foundation and partnerships with Cooper and other regional organizations, he has supported hundreds of nonprofit organizations and initiatives focused on education, medical research, workforce opportunity, public safety, and community development.

​Norcross has received numerous honors for his business, healthcare, and civic leadership, including recognition as one of New Jersey’s leading healthcare and biotechnology influencers. Norcross, a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Camden, NJ and Basilica of St. Edward in Palm Beach, FL has two married adult children.
