Lyrical Lettering: Words That Matter
Is there a line (from a book, a song, a film, or a saying in your language) that has stayed with you? Something you return to, even quietly?
Lyrical Lettering is an experimental, co-creative afternoon exploring how personal meaning can take shape through letterform. Learn and explore how to capture the energy of your words in a piece that’s distinctly yours.
Bring with you a few sentences or words. We’ll begin by practicing principles of layout, rhythm, hierarchy, and form. Then the process opens up. We’ll gather inspiration. Sketchpads will be passed. Your idea stays yours and at the same time, we’ll explore possibilities when perspectives are shared and multiplied in the room. I'll be working alongside, sharing how I approach lettering in real time and offering guidance shaped around your specific idea.
You'll leave with a piece that couldn't have existed without you and probably couldn't have existed without the room.
No prior experience needed.
Paper, pencils, fine art pens, and colour pencils provided.
Bring your favourite tools if you have them.
This is for you if:
You’re curious about ways to convey or translate an abstract feeling
You want to explore your creativity, make something and release the need to get it right
About Clarence
I’m Clarence, a designer and artist working across photography, lettering, and data visualization. Across my work, I’m drawn to exploring how invisible things (emotions, personal experiences, relationships, patterns) can become visual.
In this workshop, I’ll share my process for turning words into visual worlds, using references from song titles, album art, book covers, and personal phrases to help participants create their own lettering piece.
