Asia House and McKinsey Global Institute to Host Roundtable on Structural Vulnerabilities of Global Trade
In partnership with the McKinsey Global Institute, Asia House will hold a roundtable discussion on the structural vulnerabilities – or “Achilles’ heels” – of global trade.
Global trade remains deeply interconnected, but its dependencies are unevenly distributed. The McKinsey Global Institute’s latest research examines where trade is most structurally exposed to disruption by assessing product criticality, supplier concentration, and geopolitical distance between trading partners. These underlying dependencies can be further amplified by physical chokepoints across major trade routes, ports, and logistics networks.
This in-person roundtable will convene senior business executives and trade experts to explore what these vulnerabilities mean in practice – and how companies and policymakers can respond. The discussion will consider how leaders can move beyond broad-based supply-chain diversification to develop a targeted portfolio of resilience strategies, tailored to their most consequential dependencies.
From the McKinsey Global Institute, Jeongmin Seong, Partner, and Tiago Devesa, Senior Fellow, will share insights from the research and discuss the implications for businesses operating in an increasingly complex global environment.
