Kreyòl Language Lounge : Kreyòl Proverbs
We’re back! 🇭🇹 After taking some time to gather, connect, and share conversations together, our Kreyòl Language Lounge is returning this September.
We know that for many people, speaking Kreyòl can feel vulnerable. Maybe you understand more than you speak. Maybe you’re still building confidence. Maybe you’re reconnecting with the language later in life. Or maybe you simply love hearing Kreyòl and want more opportunities to be around it. Wherever you are in your journey, this space is for you.
Our Kreyòl Language Lounge is a casual and welcoming space where you can gather with others who love Haitian Creole whether you’re a beginner, fluent speaker, or simply curious.
This month's topic, we’re talking about Haitian proverbs, or pawòl granmoun.
Haitian proverbs carry wisdom, humor, cultural knowledge, and lessons passed down through generations. They can tell us so much about how people communicate, make sense of life, offer advice, and pass knowledge from one generation to another.
We’ll spend the evening exploring some of the proverbs we know, the ones we grew up hearing, and the meanings and stories behind them. You’re welcome to bring a favorite proverb, a pawòl granmoun you heard growing up, or simply your curiosity. Refreshments will be provided!
No need to be fluent. Come as you are, and come ready to talk.
