Fear and Love in Las Vegas
Fear and Love in Las Vegas
Some say life is a game. We compete against each other, lose, win, get rewards, and keep track our costs. In this game of life, there are two major currencies: fear and love, the strongest of human emotions. These emotions make us feel alive. They also keep us hooked on the game. Fear especially is addictive. It feeds illusions by keeping us disconnected from the now. Could love be different? Does it keep us in the game or does it have the power to take us out? Can it help us look beyond the bright lights of an illusory, artificial world? In this Philosophy Salon, we will look at the theories of emotions and explore why fear and love are special: how they construct and break the illusions we are in.
