Joy Matters
Joy is part of being human. We experience joy through people, relationships, play, intimacy, creativity, accomplishment, belonging, discovery, beauty, humor, pleasure, meaning—and sometimes through things we might never have expected.
What brings one person joy may not bring joy to another. What delighted us at one stage of life may change at another. And joy doesn’t require the absence of grief, sadness, uncertainty, anger, or everything else that comes with being human.
Sometimes, in the midst of being human, something delights us.
This evening is not about forcing happiness, thinking positively, finding the bright side, or telling ourselves what should bring us joy. It is an invitation to notice what is here, explore our own experiences of joy across a human life, let ourselves be known at the depth that feels right, and practice receiving another person’s experience without taking it over.
Together, we’ll explore the essential question:
How do we make room for joy as part of being human?
What to Expect
We’ll move through personal reflection, Joy Across a Human Life, conversation, and reflective listening. You’ll have opportunities to explore what joy has looked like at different stages of life and what you notice about your own experience now.
Sharing is always optional. You’re welcome to participate at whatever depth feels right for you.
