About Event

Join Introspective Convos, a South Bay Spaces collective, for an interactive psychology workshop exploring why making and keeping meaningful friendships feels so much harder as an adult.

This workshop draws inspiration from the bestselling book Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make - and Keep - Friends, along with additional research, articles, and expert perspectives on attachment, loneliness, and belonging.

Your registration helps support future workshops and keeps our free community events sustainable. Thank you for being part of South Bay Spaces.

The Interactive Workshop

Making friends felt easy as a kid. So why does it feel so hard now?

This interactive workshop explores what psychology, sociology, and behavioral science reveal about adult friendship. Through presentations, reflection exercises, and small-group discussions, participants will examine why humans need friendship, what research says about loneliness and belonging, and how friendships actually grow - from the first spark of connection to the habits that keep a friendship strong over time.

No prior knowledge of the book or the science of attachment required.

Whether you're looking to make new friends, reconnect with old ones, or simply understand your own patterns better, you'll leave with practical tools and a chance to connect with fellow South Bay locals asking the same questions.

Learning Objectives for this Workshop

  1. Understand why friendship matters for well-being, and what research says about loneliness and belonging.

  2. Identify the key ingredients - trust, reciprocity, vulnerability, consistency - that help friendships grow.

  3. Reflect on your own friendship patterns: who energizes you, who you've drifted from, and how you currently show up as a friend.

  4. Practice articulating what makes a friendship meaningful through guided reflections and discussions.

  5. Leave with concrete steps on how to make friends as an adult and leave with tools to strengthen existing friendships.
