8-Week Men's Group
I’m opening an 8-Week Somatic Men’s Group starting in November. This group is for men of all sexualities and expressions. Our commonality is how we have been shaped by the culture’s ideas of what men and masculinity are, regardless of how we hold gender or sexuality. The spirit of this group is to be counter-cultural. We are questioning how we’ve been asked by the culture to show up as men, not with any transformative goal other than finding our innate wholeness. This group will engage with somatic (body) practices that help us cultivate awareness and choice. In countless ways, our bodies give us information about our states, our needs, and our sense of safety. This group is unabashedly aiming to offer intimacy and community. Feeling seen, seeing others, allowing what’s inside to be shared within a safe container, all of which brings into play the more neglected aspects of our male experience and moves us towards wholeness.
We will meet for seven Saturdays at 10am PT (1pm ET) for 70 minutes. The final 8th session will be scheduled by consensus. During the 8 weeks participants will receive daily prompts from me by text which will require a brief response. These prompts are to keep the energy of the group going between sessions.
What a typical 70-minute session looks like:
Basic structure below, but improvisation guides us just as much.
Round of quick check-ins with a word, sentence, or feeling state. Review of agreements.
Group somatic practice: we’ll get our bodies moving in the room and see what they have to say.
Diad/triad check-ins: a chance to practice showing someone what’s going on inside of us, and asking for what we need from a partner(s).
Group sharing: what are you noticing, excited about, frustrated by, confused about. What’s alive in you right now, in this moment?
Spotlight: 1 person sharing what’s been going well (or has been particularly challenging) and how/why.
