About Event

Come celebrate SWer lives with us this December 17th, 2025, in honor of the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.

D17 was birthed in 2003 by Dr. Annie Sprinkle and the Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP), in remembrance of the victims of Gary Ridgeway, a serial murderer who took the lives of dozens of SWers in the 80s and 90s. This tragedy is part of a collective legacy of society casting SWers out, especially our racialized and trans siblings, highlighting the vulnerabilities, systemic failures, violence and discrimination endured by SWers, and in advocacy of our rights and protections worldwide.

On D17, we gather with our community to mourn our lost siblings, honor our ancestors, and celebrate our sacred lives.

Please join us at Bushwick's new trans-owned boxing gym, where we will feature the following programming:

  • 6-7pm: Heels & Nails Self-Defense Class with Nina Divina

  • 7:30pm: Vigil (guests are welcome to bring a small offering for our community shrine).

  • 8pm: Premiere screening of 'Beloved,' a short documentary about the love lives of SWers, directed by and produced by Delilah Saul of Outlaw Media.

  • 9-11pm: Dance party by Red Light Disco

Note: this event centers queer and trans SWers. Allies are welcome to join, however every guest will be vetted through our RSVP form and at the door.

Photos will only been allowed in clearly marked areas. We will provide glow sticks as well for sober folks who want to find each other.

THIS IS NOT A SPACE FOR CLIENTS.

Sliding scale donations will be split between funding the space and Red Canary Song, a NYC-based grassroots coalition dedicated to providing support for migrant SWers transnationally, who have no political representation or access to labor rights or collective organizing.
