The GIVE Study: What Helps Donors Stay? [DPP Lunch Analysis]
Most nonprofits focus on acquiring donors, yet the sector continues to struggle with the same challenge: most donors do not return after their first gift.
In this session, Dr. Sanjay Bindra will share insights from The GIVE Study — a prospective, real-world case study conducted throughout 2025 at GOSUMEC Foundation USA, a zero-staff small nonprofit supporting medical education scholarships. The study explored whether sustainable generosity could be built through relationships, using simple tools and a consistent communication cadence that even the smallest organizations can realistically execute.
Dr. Bindra will walk through the GIVE System — Behavior, Tools, and Cadence — and the relational framework at its core:
Gratitude — helping donors feel appreciated and welcomed
Impact — showing the difference their support makes through storytelling
Voice — inviting participation and feedback
Engagement — creating opportunities for deeper connection
You'll leave this session with a practical framework for building donor loyalty through relationship, not transaction.
About: The Donor Participation Project (DPP) is a community of fundraisers who co-create solutions to reverse the nationwide decline in donor participation (20 million US households lost between 2000-2016).
This event will take place over Zoom.
The session will be recorded and accessible post-event for DPP members only.
