Hey user researchers… where did the work go?
Hey everyone,
Come join us for our next User Research meetup in NYC! Last time we talked about the researcher’s intuition. This time we're following the thread somewhere more practical: AI was supposed to make us faster. In a lot of places, it has. But the research work didn't disappear... it moved. So where did it go?
In many ways, AI has made our jobs as researchers easier. But it has also put many of us into an in-between state of working. For those that have been here, we spend our days building out new systems, understanding complex data pipelines, defining new ways of working together, governance. (And let's not be modest— asking ourselves if we are crazy for chatting with an AI chatbot all day??)
For folks just entering the field, the tasks that you used to be able to learn the most from— notetaking, tagging, synthesis, desk research— are exactly the ones that are being automated.
Come compare notes with us. We have A LOT to learn from one another.
Things we'll be thinking about:
Where have you not gotten more efficient? What work has grown or become new?
What's actually saved you time, and what did it cost to build?
As more tasks are automated, how are those new to the field building judgment and skills?
How do our experiences differ cross-generationally, especially since each generation has a unique relationship with computers?
How is everyone creating their foundational knowledge in AI for research?
