Gridcog Unplugged: BtM Flex & Data Centres
2026 Trends in Behind the Meter Flex in GB: AI Data Centres and Grid Constraints
Gridcog Unplugged is back for 2026! We’d love for you to join us for an evening of insightful energy chats, mingling and drinks in Shoreditch.
In this edition, we’re turning our focus closer to home…
As AI-driven data centre demand accelerates and grid constraints tighten across Great Britain, behind-the-meter flexibility is becoming a necessity. Developers, investors, and large energy users are being forced to rethink how projects are designed, financed, and operated in an increasingly constrained system.
We're excited to announce our special guest speakers:
Tom McCarty, Senior Investment Manager, Octopus Energy Generation
Tom Hughes, Senior Manager, PWC (Strategy&)
David Ferguson, Head of Innovation, EDF (UK)
This panel will explore:
How AI data centres are reshaping demand profiles and accelerating grid stress
The growing role of behind-the-meter flexibility in unlocking new connections
Where the most attractive opportunities are across storage, on-site generation, and demand response
How developers and large energy users can navigate grid constraints in GB
What the future system might look like as flexibility becomes foundational
Please make sure to RSVP so we can manage numbers, drinks and food. Just fill out the quick form on this page, and you’re in. This event is invite-only and numbers are very limited.
