WHAT WE CARRY: Full SEA Healing Series (Sessions 1-5)
The Fall/Winter 2026 Southeast Asian Healing Series: WHAT WE CARRY is a 5-session, biweekly virtual support space created for Southeast Asian adult children of refugees/immigrants (21+) looking for a culturally affirming space to unpack, reflect on, and discuss the lived experiences that shape our mental health and wellbeing.
Grounded in culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and healing-centered care, each 75-minute gathering blends psychoeducation, guided reflection, and facilitated group discussion. Together, we’ll explore how Southeast Asian families, cultural values, histories, relationships, and experiences as adult children and descendants of Southeast Asian refugees and immigrants can shape the ways we relate to ourselves and others.
This is not about blaming our families, cultures or ourselves. It’s about building greater understanding of what we’ve inherited, making space for our lived experiences, and exploring what healing and liberation can look like for us individually and collectively.
Session Topics
October 21: Intergenerational Trauma
Understanding what we inherited
Explore how ancestral/historical trauma, immigration, refugee experiences, and survival can shape our relationships, sense of self, emotional/behavioral patterns, and family dynamics.
November 4: Emotionally Immature Parents
Navigating complicated parent-child relationships
Explore how emotional immaturity, harmful behaviors, enmeshment, and cultural expectations (i.e. filial piety) can shape our relationships with our immigrant/refugee parents and ourselves as adults.
November 18: Codependency, Caretaking & Boundaries
Caring for family without losing yourself
Unpack the pressure of being your family's (emotional) caretaker, "fixer", case manager, translator, or “good” child and explore how we can care for others while making space for our own needs and boundaries.
December 2: Navigating Money & Financial Stress
Unpacking how poverty and financial stress can impact our relationships
Explore how family survival, financial inaccessibility/insecurity, and scarcity can shape our sense of safety, relationship with money, and the ways we relate to others.
December 16: Healing Shame & Reclaiming Belonging & Joy
Moving beyond survival toward connection & joy
Explore how internalized shame, social alienation, racism, forced assimilation, and survival can impact our sense of belonging, while making space to reconnect with safety, rest, cultural identity, community, and joy!
We’ll be skipping the week of November 25th in observance of Thanksgiving/Indigenous Peoples’ holiday week.
