Watch This Space Green Paper Consultation - Discussion Calls
Watch This Space - Civic, Community and Independent Media Consultation Sessions
DCMS has opened its consultation on Watch this space: a new strategic direction for UK media, setting out proposals on the future of public service media, trustworthy news, media literacy, platform prominence, local information, and the wider UK media ecology.
Decentered Media is supporting Better Media to host a short series of online consultation sessions for civic, community and independent media providers, researchers, advocates, practitioners and supporters who want to discuss the Green Paper and consider how best to respond.
The sessions will take place on Zoom at 4pm UK time on:
15 July 2026
22 July 2026
29 July 2026
5 August 2026
Participants are welcome to attend one or more sessions. The series will provide space to discuss the key themes raised in the Green Paper, including accuracy, trust, community and civic media, media pluralism, platform prominence, local information, and media literacies.
The aim is to identify shared concerns, practical examples, policy gaps and possible response points that civic, community and independent media providers may wish to include in their own submissions to DCMS.
The consultation closes at 11:59pm on 31 August 2026. Responses can be submitted through the government consultation portal, and extended responses can be sent by email to [email protected].
Additional discussion and shared notes will be supported through the Better Media Forum: https://forum.bettermedia.uk/
These sessions are open to anyone with an interest in strengthening a more plural, accountable and participatory media system in the UK.
