• ​Ask clarifying questions in order to truly understand the business

  • ​Ask into the potential and new opportunities you see from your area of expertise

  • ​Ask into the risks and challenges that you see. Remember to also focus upon how-to create solutions together for these same risks.

  • ​Ask about the people behind the company: As you know, we appreciate 80/20 professional and personal connections at CVX. Hence we have good experience with also asking questions like:

  • ​We know that people invest (either time, money or both) in people  - Who are you as a person?

  • ​Ask deeper and follow up questions: Notice which challenges the founder says lie ahead.

  • ​E.g. A company must present a commercial LOI (Letter Of Intent) with a customer before an institutional investor will invest. Try to put yourself in the shoes of the potential customer negotiating the LOI from the other side of the table:

    • ​What would be your remaining concern?

      • ​What is your recommendations to Founder overcoming this concern?

  • ​Share your anecdotes/stories/examples if they may be valuable to the founder to learn from. OBS! Being short and to the point is key here ;-)
