WAAI LIVE - DC Metro Hub
The DC Metro Hub is getting off Slack and into a room. This is our first in-person gathering — two hours of margaritas, Tex-Mex, and the women who are building, using, and questioning AI across DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. No panel, no slides, just a quick welcome. Then the happiest of hours, and the start of a community that knows each other on sight.
Important Details:
Venmo $25 to @Maria-Sekles to secure your spot — your seat is confirmed when the payment is received.
$25 per person covers guacamole, queso, endless chips and salsa, and table nachos. Coffee, tea, lemonade and sodas are included, as well as tax and gratuity.
Bar drinks, including margaritas (!), are available for separate purchase at the event.
What to expect
An easy, low-key happy hour. Come when you can, leave when you must. You'll meet the other DMV members, hear what everyone's working on, and have a say in what this hub does next. Name tags, a long table, and no obligation to be an expert in anything.
Agenda
4:00 PM: Arrive, grab a drink, find your name tag
4:30 PM: Short welcome from Flavia Sekles and Alice Christman, then a quick go-round so everyone hears who's in the room
5:00 PM: Open mingling, and an honest conversation about what you want this hub to be
6:00 PM: Formal end. Stay on if you're enjoying yourself.
Who should come
Every WAAI member in the DMV, at any level — AI-curious, AI-expert, AI-building, AI-skeptical. All of it counts.
And bring a friend! Strongly encouraged, and she doesn't need to be a WAAI member yet. We're trying to grow this the way real communities grow: one person brings another.
Space is capped at ~25. RSVPs will close as soon as ~25 people have paid, friends included — so please name your guest when you sign up, and send payment for both of you.
Getting to Uncle Julio's:
Uncle Julio's sits at the corner of Bethesda Ave and Arlington Road in downtown Bethesda. We've reserved the area around the bar — reservation under Flavia Sekles.
Driving: A large Montgomery County multilevel garage is directly across the street, with entry from either Bethesda Ave or Elm Street. County garages run $1.75/hour, so two hours is about $3.5
Metro: Bethesda Metro Center on the Red Line, then a 10-minute walk.
