Fundraising Talk: High level Fundraising Concepts and Common Land Mines from 700 Rounds [virtual]
StartX has supported over 1200 companies who have raised collectively $30B and directly invested in over 700 rounds. The goal of this talk is two fold:1) High level overview of the core principles of fundraising and where to go at StartX to dig in to learn more;
Including:
How to think about if you are ready to raise,
What are the types of investors and who should you focus on,
What does fundraising technique mean?,
What is a fundraising process?
What does it mean to control an investor meeting?
Investor echo chamber, etc.
2) Explain common fundraising landmines and simple tricks to avoid digging yourself into a hole such as:
How getting a “No” affects your round,
What is backchanneling
This is not an in depth training session, but a macro overview so that you can figure out what you need to learn and hopefully not make some common mistakes upfront. There are 4-5 other StartX fundraising talks that dive in deep on each of these topics.
This talk is for you if any of the following apply:
- First time fundraiser
- I tried fundraising and failed - I want to know why
- I fundraised Very easily because I was in a hot space and not I have to run a process
- Fundraising was very inefficient and felt like an uphill battle - I want it to be faster next time
- I am fundraising soon and It’s always good to get a refresher on the basics
