​What if we measured the impact of a carbon project the way we test a new medication? A control group, a treatment group, and a rigorous read on what actually changed.

​Randomized controlled trials are the gold standard for proving causal impact, and they're now the foundation of the first carbon methodology built on that principle. By pairing dynamic baselines with control experiments, this approach measures changes in forest carbon sequestration directly and isolates what the intervention actually caused.

​For nature-based carbon projects, that's a real shift in how we talk about additionality. Instead of modeling what might have happened without a project, we can measure what happened because of it, pointing to the result with confidence.

​Working forests can store far more carbon than current management recognizes. This methodology gives the industry an actionable way to measure and validate those carbon-enhancing improvements, unlocking their full potential to deliver credible, high-impact carbon removal.

​Six leaders across science, standards, and project development will discuss what this means for the field, each bringing a different vantage point. Together they show this approach scales, and that restoring degraded working forests and lands is among the most cost-efficient pathways in nature-based carbon.
