Dog Mountain: Low Effort, High Reward Lookout
Waiver is Mandatory: ⬅️ Click here to sign the waiver
Cost: $10 per person, e-transfer to [email protected]
Looking for panoramic city views without the grueling mountain climb? This Sunday, we are heading up Mount Seymour Provincial Park to take on Dog Mountain. This is famously one of the best effort-to-reward trails across the Lower Mainland.
From the rocky bluff at the summit, we will get front-row, sweeping views of Stanley Park, downtown Vancouver, the Lions Gate Bridge, and the Burrard Inlet. It’s the perfect casual but active social outing to close out the weekend.
About the Event
Date: This Sunday, June 14th, 2026
Cost: $10 per person. This covers the coordination, organization, and the shared group resources (bear sprays, bells, knives, whistle, hiking poles, etc) for the day.
Payment: Once your request to join is approved, please e-transfer your fee to [email protected] and share a screenshot of the transaction in our chat to lock in your spot.
Hike Statistics (via AllTrails)
Distance: 5 km round trip.
Elevation Gain: Minimal (34 m net gain, though expect minor up-and-down terrain).
Duration: 2 hours of steady movement.
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. While it's flat and physically straightforward, the trail is notoriously technical—covered in exposed tree roots, loose rocks, and muddy patches that require careful footing.
The Game Plan
The Route: Starting from the northern end of the top parking lot, we will tuck into the West Coast forest canopy. We’ll cross a few small stream bridges, navigate the rooty paths past First Lake, and make our final push out onto the open rocky bluffs for a group lunch and photos.
Social Pace: We will keep a steady, inclusive pace so everyone can navigate the root sections safely while chatting.
Approval: I will be manually reviewing registration requests to keep our trail group size comfortable and organized.
Mandatory Gear & Prep
Footwear: Proper hiking shoes or boots with solid tread/grip are mandatory. The wet roots and muddy segments are famously slippery.
Food & Hydration: Bring a packed lunch/snacks and at least 2L of water to enjoy at the summit viewpoint.
Clothing: Check the mountain forecast and dress in comfortable layers.
Age Limit: This event is strictly for participants aged 19+.
Waiver: A signed liability waiver is mandatory for everyone before we hit the trailhead.
Important Peer-Group Notice
Please note that this is an informal outing of peers. I am participating for my own recreation and enjoyment; I am not a professional guide, wilderness instructor, or leader. You are entirely responsible for your own safety, physical preparation, and footing on the trail at all times.
