The Book Club: Wellness & Southbath
In January The Book Club will be embracing wellness in the new year by combining the discussions about the chosen book, Wellness by Nathan Hill, with a deeply relaxing, very on theme south bath at sagayoga.
We will start the event by getting to know each other a little bit and then we’ll break into small groups for a 40-minute discussion using optional prompts. Once we’ve talked about the book, we’ll transition into a 1-hour sound bath guided by Chiara.
What to bring
Please bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated at the event, you're also welcome to bring your own eye mask to use during the sound bath. I will create some questions and prompts to guide the discussion but please feel free to bring your own questions as well.
About Chiara
Our sound bath facilitator will be Chiara. She is teaching at sagayoga since she moved from Frankfurt to Helsinki in 2021. Her yoga path began with a craving for an inner sense of home. Yoga became the architecture, interior design, and celebrations of that space. With sounds she finds a deep state of relaxation, integration and connection that she doesn’t find elsewhere. Sagayoga was where she first felt she belonged in Helsinki, finding a community she lovingly calls her “village”. More about Chiara here >
What is a Soundbath?
A Soundbath is a deeply-immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to nurture your mind and body. Lay down, listen & relax. Chiara's set of instruments currently consists of 7 crystal bowls, 3 ching bowls, 3 Peter Hess bowls, 1 crystal chime, 5 wind chimes for the 5 elements, 1 Kenari seed chime, 1 rain maker, and 1 tongue drum. FAQS
About The Book Club
This book club will be about more than just books. It will be a way to see different parts of Helsinki, connect with new people without the awkward small talk (books are a great way to bypass BS), and to eat delicious food.
What types of books will we read?
Books will mostly be literary fiction and memoirs set in different places from around the world or by authors from different parts of the world.
Who should attend?
Finns and foreigners who love books and can speak English (this book club is also a great place to practice English).
When will we meet?
Every 6-8 weeks to start with. There is no obligation to attend every meeting. Attend the sessions that interest you and that you are available to attend. Hopefully, there will always be a mix of familiar and new faces.
How will it work?
It will be very casual, so there is no need to do any homework. However, if you buy a ticket, you will get sent a The Book Club Book to take notes. At the event, we will break into groups of 5-7 people to talk about the book. I will provide some prompts, and I encourage you to bring your own questions about the book. There will be time for mingling before and/or after the book discussion. Some light refreshments will be provided.
Other things worth mentioning:
If you don’t read but just want to come along for the vibes and company, you’re more than welcome, but the majority of the discussion will be around the book.
The cost of the ticket includes:
25.5% VAT, venue hire, sound bath facilitation, and administrative costs such as website hosting, etc.
