About Event

From Social Ritual to Economic Power - coffee has never been just a drink in Armenia.

For centuries, it has been part of our homes, relationships, conversations, and public life. But behind this everyday ritual lies a fascinating story of social and economic transformation, especially for Armenian women.

Join us at Ground Zero Venture Café for a journey through centuries of Armenian coffee culture with Tatevik Saroyan, historian, researcher, PhD candidate, and Director of the History Museum at Yerevan State University, in conversation with Karén Gyulbudaghyan, ecosystem architect and Founder of Ground Zero Venture Café.

The conversation brings together two complementary perspectives:

Tatevik Saroyan — Coffee looking backward
History → Culture → Women → Social Transformation

Through her research, Tatevik will take us into Armenia's past: from coffee as a household ritual and historically male-dominated coffeehouses to the gradually changing role and presence of women in Armenia's social and public life.

Karén Gyulbudaghyan — Coffee looking forward
Culture → Connection → Entrepreneurship → Economic Transformation

Karén will connect that history to the present and future, exploring coffee as a catalyst for human connection, entrepreneurship, and economic development, and how women have evolved from participants in coffee culture to entrepreneurs, business owners, and creators of the spaces where communities now come together.

And there may be no better place for this conversation than Ground Zero itself: a contemporary venture café built around the idea that coffee and food can create the trusted environment where people meet, ideas cross boundaries, relationships form, and new possibilities emerge.

So, this conversation is really about something much bigger than coffee: women, culture, entrepreneurship, and the transformation of Armenian society.

Centuries of Coffee. Generations of Change.
