The name "Francesinha" translates to "Little Frenchie," a nod to its inspiration from the French croque-monsieur. The dish consists of a sandwich made with bread, wet-cured ham, linguiça (a type of sausage), fresh sausage like chipolata, and steak or roast meat. It's then covered with melted cheese and a hot, thick tomato and beer sauce. The sandwich is typically served with French fries and sometimes topped with a fried egg.
