AI Wednesdays: The One About AI x Healthcare
The advent of AI has empowered ground-up health innovators to quickly build, test and deploy new transformative ideas in the health sector in Singapore. Join Associate Prof Matthew Chua, Deputy Director of Digital & Smart Health Office at NHG and Associate Professor at NUS, who will discuss this transformative shift and highlight the Digital Health Transformation & Research projects he's leading (Technical Level: 100)
Also joining us will be Jianyang Lum (ML Eng, BotMD) from BotMD who will share his experiences about building LLM and non-LLM bot technologies in the healthcare space. He'll share about the unique challenges building for healthcare, technical implementations that support clients' use cases and his thoughts about future directions for chatbots in healthcare, from the solution provider perspective. (Technical Level: 200)
Lastly, we'll be having Evelyn Goh, founder and CEO of Megrez, to present an engaging session on leveraging AI for epidemiological predictions. Learn about AI's impact on predicting outbreaks and optimizing public health strategies, advanced modeling techniques including time-series forecasting and spatial modeling, challenges in working with healthcare data, and lessons from real-world deployments. We'll also delve into future trends, such as the integration of LLMs and explainable AI in epidemiology. (Technical Level: 200)
More About the Speakers
Associate Prof. Matthew Chua is a distinguished leader in AI and healthcare innovation, recognised with the Global Excellence Award 2024. He serves as Deputy Director of the Digital and Smart Health Office at the NHG and is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics at NUS School of Medicine. Matt has won national data science competitions and the MINDEF Exemplary Innovator Award. His research, supported by over S$8 million in grants, focuses on AI in medicine. He has published extensively in top-tier journals and is an Editor for PLOS One Journal.
Jianyang Lum leads the ML team at BotMD, a Singapore-based YC startup that aims to provide chatbot solutions in healthcare to help doctors get information quickly. Previously, he spent 4+ years in ML engineering at Pinterest, doing cool recommender-system things for Ads (e.g. transformer models for shopping, user interest modelling, privacy, candidate generation, building targeting products) and misses the Bay Area a lot, having spent 10+ years there for school and work.
Evelyn Goh is a PhD candidate at the National University of Singapore (NUS). With joint appointments at both the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health and the College of Design and Engineering, she is pioneering research on the integration of AI into medicine and public health. As the founder and CEO of Megrez, Evelyn is also at the forefront of developing advanced AI models for healthcare use cases, focusing on predictive modeling and real-world deployments. Her passion lies in bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI research and its application in solving critical challenges in medicine and public health.
