The October Danger Zone : What Montessori Parents Can't See, and Why It Costs You
September was wonderful. The classrooms were prepared, the teachers were energized, and the families who had just enrolled wanted this to work.
Then October arrives. At breakfast, a child announces she does not want to go to school. A parent asks what happened today and hears "nothing." A grandparent wants to know why no worksheets are coming home. And quietly, the question in some parents' minds begins to change from "isn't this school wonderful?" to "did we make the right decision?" Tim Seldin calls this the October Danger Zone. His argument is that a family keeps making its enrollment decision long after the contract is signed, and that Montessori schools carry a particular disadvantage: so much of what we value is invisible to a parent who has never been taught to see it.
Join Tim Seldin, President of The Montessori Foundation, for a live session on making Montessori learning visible to the families who chose you. How a teacher turns an observation into a story a parent can repeat at dinner. How the first conferences of the year become parent education instead of progress reporting. And how to answer the question that decides both retention and word of mouth: what are we giving our parents to talk about? Every attendee earns a professional development certificate from the University of Sarasota. The recording goes to everyone who registers.
