About Event

- This event is exclusive to Alma Angels -

Venture and growth debt are more and more presented as an alternative to equity for founders looking to diversify funding options. It is however often misunderstood and underutilised.

🤔 When does it make sense to use venture debt alongside equity?
🤔 What are the access criteria?
🤔 How are these deals typically structured?
🤔 And what should founders and investors watch out for?

In this exclusive session, Kara Conway, longstanding Alma Angel and professional venture debt investor, will walk us through the fundamentals. She’ll share how debt can support high-growth companies, what the key terms and structures look like, and answer your burning questions on where it fits into the financing journey of your portfolio companies.

This is a unique chance to gain clarity on an area of venture finance that can be a powerful tool, if used wisely ☝️

About Kara

Kara Conway joined Bootstrap Europe as a Vice President in 2024, where she oversaw the entire deal cycle—from sourcing and diligence to execution and portfolio management. Prior to this, Kara was an investor at Claret Capital Partners, where she completed over €180 million in venture loans across nine countries, focusing on sectors such as Medtech, SaaS, Marketplaces, Fintech, and Industry 4.0.

Kara’s entrepreneurial journey began at “1871”, Chicago’s largest tech incubator, where she worked for a failed start-up, attempting to revitalise the market for charitable giving. She later co-founded an apparel company for breast cancer survivors, providing unique shaping solutions with patented designs. Following this, Kara worked in banking at HSBC in both New York and London, specialising in Corporate and Leveraged Finance, focusing on debt structuring for private equity-backed transactions.

A former NCAA athlete, Kara captained the varsity volleyball team at the University of Chicago, where she graduated with honours and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Now based in London for over seven years, Kara continues to bring her American enthusiasm, competitive spirit, and positive energy to every project.
