In 1989, driven by a simple question—“If not me, then who?”—Dr. Girish Kulkarni offered a loaf of bread and a safe corner to an ostracised family in Ahmednagar’s red-light district.
Thirty-seven years later, that single gesture has grown into Snehalaya: a network of 26 grassroots projects: A Home for 400 children, one of the largest child adoption centres, a 24x7 Helpline to prevent child marriage, an after school program in 8 slums, a state of the art school for the underprivileged, a mental health and rehab centre, and a forest plantation are a few notable projects., Snehalaya has rescued, rehabilitated, and empowered over 200,000 vulnerable women and children.
