Gua Sha and Traditional Chinese Medicine for Pain Relief and Emotional Regulation with Proud Asian Men
Asian men are experiencing a mental health epidemic.
In 2015-2019, Asian men were the least likely to use mental health services compared to any other race and gender combination (SAMHSA, 2021).
In order to combat this, Proud Asian Men was created.
Proud Asian Men is a support group and men's mental health collective hosted under Asian Mental Health Project in collaboration with JinShan Collective whose mission is to create a safe and brave space for Asian men to explore the intersection of their culture and masculinity in a supportive environment.
About TCM and Gua Sha:
In Chinese Medicine, Gua Sha has been used for centuries to help move emotional and physical stagnation by restoring the flow of Qi, blood, and fluids throughout the body. As circulation improves, so can flexibility, immunity, resilience, and a greater sense of calm. When the body begins to flow again, the mind often follows. Sometimes healing isn’t about pushing through—it’s about creating space for your body to release what it’s been holding onto.
Programming is as follows:
1-2 PM: Introductions, Community Guidelines, Opening Meditation and Ice Breakers
2-4 PM: Gua Sha and TCM Facilitation by Dr. Jen
4-5 PM: Group Share and Processing

- an open heart and mind

About your facilitators:
Leo Xia is a Los Angeles-based men’s mental health facilitator and Alt R&B/Lofi performance artist going by the name Lowhi.
He facilitates weekly men's support groups through his own JinShan Collective as well as Proud Asian Men in collaboration with Asian Mental Health Project. In these groups he navigates conversations about masculinity, culture and identity for Asian men. He created these spaces to combat the global male loneliness epidemic and to support men in creating the life that they dream of through emotional intelligence and communication.
Dr. Jen Ng, DACM, L.Ac. is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, licensed acupuncturist, and facial acupuncture specialist with over 10 years of clinical experience. She helps people discover the best version of themselves—physically, mentally, and visually—through the holistic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Jen specializes in understanding how emotional stagnation, including chronic stress, grief, anxiety, and overwhelm, can become stored in the face and body. This can manifest as wrinkles, pain, tension, and other physical symptoms. By integrating acupuncture, Gua Sha, and facial diagnosis, she helps restore the healthy flow of Qi, supporting pain relief, emotional well-being, and natural vitality. Through education and workshops, she empowers others with practical tools to reconnect with their bodies and cultivate lasting wellness from the inside out.
