About Event

Join us for a weekend of classic gunks climbing this fall! Whether you can only swing a single day trip from the city or want to stay overnight for the full weekend. This unguided club outing is a great opportunity to climb together, share skills, and get out on the rock before winter sets in.

What We'll Be Doing •Top-Roping (5.5–5.10): Log mileage on classic routes to build endurance and movement confidence on Gunks quartz conglomerate. •Mock Leading: Practice evaluating gear placements, stances, and rope management on lead with the security of a top-rope backup. •Single-Pitch Trad Leading & Following: Partner up to lead or follow classics, clean stuck gear, and sharpen multi-point anchor builds. •Self-Rescue Skills: Ground-school and low-angle reviews covering load transfers, escaping the belay, friction hitches, and ascending a fixed line.

Flexible Participation: Come up for either Saturday or Sunday as a day trip, or join us for both days and stay overnight (camping or lodging nearby in New Paltz).

Prerequisites: Completion of our Intro to Outdoor Climbing / Intro to Trad course, or equivalent outdoor climbing and belaying experience.

Gear: Everyone needs a harness and helmet at minimum, and belay device preferred.
