About Event

This program is part of BioBuzz's Career Catalyst series, a weekly virtual program designed for students, recent grads, and early-career professionals navigating the life sciences industry. Our sessions are intentionally built to foster direct, high-quality access to the industry leaders shaping it.

Overview

Every horror movie has a monster you can't see coming. But in biomanufacturing, those monsters are real, and they're microscopic.

A single contaminant can threaten an entire batch of product, and the professionals who catch it before it causes harm are some of the most essential, and least talked about, people in the industry.

Join us as we pull back the curtain on QC microbiology and environmental monitoring to meet the "monsters in your cleanroom": the bacteria, yeast, mold, and other microorganisms teams are trained to detect, identify, track, and stop before they ever threaten a patient.

We'll cover what contamination control actually looks like day to day, including microbial monitoring, cleanroom behavior, investigations when something goes wrong, organism identification, and how teams look for trends over time.

And if you've ever wondered what a career in QC microbiology actually involves, or how someone breaks into it, this is your entry point into one of the industry's most important lines of defense.

Key Takeaways

  1. Understand how microorganisms can enter a biomanufacturing environment and why contamination control matters for product and patient safety.

  2. See how environmental and microbial monitoring work in practice, including how teams look for organisms in cleanrooms, air, surfaces, and other areas.

  3. Learn what happens when contamination is detected, from identification and investigation to trending and follow-up.

  4. Understand why cleanroom behavior matters, including how everyday actions can increase or reduce contamination risk.

  5. Explore careers in QC microbiology and contamination control, including entry-level roles, common responsibilities, and pathways for growth.
