Theory and Practice Seminar: Participation
This seminar will be a discussion of the theme of participation as understood in democratic theory, practiced in real politics and organizations, and delivered by new deliberative technologies. It will start with an intro to some relevant theoretical concepts and theoretical debates related to participation. Whatever your background knowledge, this is an opportunity for anyone interested in participation (whether in "regular" politics or new institutions) to learn and think together about the nature and ethics of participation.
Find a list of readings here (also at metagov.org/projects/theory-practice). You're welcome even if you don't have time for readings, but we recommend looking over at least a few pages, as the discussion will be more interesting if we start with some shared context. The readings are listed in descending order of priority, but feel free to jump around the list if anything looks interesting. Most are only a few pages (pdf excerpts are included), and there are a few videos for those who prefer listening.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone!
