In Japanese, 形見(かたみ, katami)refers to an object left behind as a reminder of someone. Its significance often has little to do with its monetary value. Instead, it may hold a relationship, a chapter of life, or even a former version of ourselves.

But we do not have to wait until something is lost before asking:

What do I truly want to keep?

———

🏁 Katami: A Life Told Through Objects

This is not a workshop about decluttering, nor is it an end-of-life planning course. Through object reflection, writing and dialogue, we will explore:

  • My meaningful object: Why have I chosen to keep this particular object?

  • Objects and my life timeline: Which chapter of my life does it represent?

  • Keeping and letting go: Am I holding on to the object—or to an identity, relationship or regret?

  • Reordering what matters: If space were limited, what would I want to carry into the next stage of life?

  • Preparing for the next chapter: What do I want to keep, release and begin again?
