Benefits: A New Caste System - Weekly Downloads with Rob & Aparna
Multi-tier benefits quietly divide your workforce - and what to do instead.
You probably don't think of your benefits structure as a caste system. But increasingly, organizations are moving to a model where senior leaders get full health coverage, fertility benefits, and a 401k match - and frontline, internal-facing, hourly workers get a high-deductible plan and a pamphlet about the EAP.
Multi-tier benefits are one of the most normalized forms of inequity inside organizations, partly because they're legal, and partly because nobody talks about them out loud. We do.
We'll look at how tiered benefits erode cohesion, signal who the company actually values, and create retention problems in the segments you can least afford to lose. We'll also look at what more equitable benefit design looks like in practice - not ideally, but at a company your size, with your constraints.
Who this is for: HR, Total Rewards, and People Ops leaders who design or influence benefits decisions.
