About Event

🌎 What will the next major Bay Area earthquake actually feel like?

The Hayward Fault runs through the East Bay—including Oakland and Berkeley—and is capable of producing a major magnitude 7 earthquake. Its last big event was in 1868, leaving scientists with limited data on what the next one might look like.

In this lecture, Artie Rodgers, seismologist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, explores how supercomputer simulations are used to model future earthquakes on the Hayward Fault. These models help predict how the ground could shake—and what that means for the Bay Area.

Rodgers will break down what scientists know, what remains uncertain, and how research is helping us better prepare for the next big one. 🌎⚡
