Emerging Innovations in Markets, Finance, and Community Leadership

Co-organized by the Rights and Resources Initiative, Amazon Investors Coalition, and Sustainable Finance Coalition

The future of climate resilience and biodiversity conservation will depend not only on protecting forests and ecosystems, but on ensuring that the Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant Peoples, and local communities who steward them are able to build thriving, self-determined economies. As attention increasingly turns beyond 2030, community economies are emerging as a critical foundation for lasting conservation, climate adaptation, and sustainable rural development.

Building on the momentum of the 2026 Global Summit on Collective Livelihoods and Conservation in Brasília, this interactive discussion will showcase emerging innovations that are connecting community economies with markets, finance, and new forms of partnership. Rather than revisiting familiar debates, the conversation will highlight practical approaches that are beginning to reshape how governments, philanthropy, investors, businesses, and rightsholders work together to support community-led conservation and development.

Join leaders from Indigenous Peoples', Afro-descendant Peoples', and local community organizations, philanthropy, sustainable finance, conservation, and enterprise development to explore:

  • Emerging market innovations connecting community enterprises with buyers and value chains.

  • New finance pathways supporting community-led conservation and local economies.

  • Community-led innovations in governance, enterprise, and stewardship that are shaping the next generation of conservation.

  • What's next for scaling these approaches from promising innovations into mainstream climate and conservation practice.

The discussion will feature leaders from the Rights and Resources Initiative, Amazon Investors Coalition, Sustainable Finance Coalition, and Indigenous Peoples', Afro-descendant Peoples', and local community organizations from multiple regions.

Whether you work in philanthropy, conservation, sustainable finance, enterprise development, or community rights, this session offers an opportunity to engage with some of the newest thinking and practical innovations emerging at the intersection of community economies and global climate action.
