🌍 Beyond the Courtroom: Defining and Strengthening Africa's Diverse Justice Pathways

How do we name, define, and strengthen the many ways people access justice across Africa—beyond the formal courtroom?

Join us for this webinar, co-organized by the Alternative Justice System Coordination Committee and the African Alliance for People-Centered Justice, as we explore terminology, shared continental norms, and real practices integrating diverse pathways to access to justice and state justice systems across the continent.

📅 June 4, 2026
🕝 14:30–16:30 East Africa Time
💻 Online

This session is held ahead of the 4th National Conference on Alternative Justice Systems in Kenya (June 16–19, 2026, University of Embu), under the theme Data-Driven Pathways for People-Centred Justice.

The webinar serves as both a reflection and a launchpad: It will examine the terminology that shapes the legitimacy and policy treatment of justice beyond the courts, explore emerging efforts toward a continental normative framework grounded in inclusion, fairness, and human rights alignment, and showcase practical innovations from countries such as Somalia, Nigeria, and Rwanda. Through expert presentations, a practitioner roundtable, and an interactive audience discussion, participants will work toward a shared understanding of conceptual framing, identify core principles for continental alignment, and document lessons for cross-country collaboration. In doing so, the session lays the intellectual and practical foundation for the deeper deliberations to follow at the main conference.
