Understanding & Countering Far-Right Narratives
Pivotal to the recent success of far-right political movements across the world has been their ability to portray themselves as avatars of popular ‘common sense’, contrasted with a decadent and oppressive cultural elite.
In this workshop we will explore how Narrative Analysis & Mapping can help unpack and explain the workings of this pivotal aspect of the appeal of the contemporary far-right, the historical roots and implications of its aesthetic nature, why many common opposing responses have backfired, and the basis of more effective approaches.
This session is for you if:
Your organisation is working to understand and/or counter far-right movements and their narratives.
You will benefit from understanding their historical and aesthetic dimensions.
You want to understand how Narrative Mapping & Analysis can be used to build more effective strategies.
The session will be led by Future Narratives Lab Executive Director Daniel Stanley.
It will also include a conversation between FNL Strategy Director Sarah Stein Lubrano and guest Marcus Bösch, author of the Understanding TikTok substack, and expert in digital culture & propaganda in the age of AI.
